Our Story

Having worked in wood for over 20 years, we understand the importance of working with quality material that has the right characteristics for what you are building. It makes the job enjoyable for the builder and it makes the final piece often exceed expectations. Each top we create is made with utmost care, from selecting the raw material, to sawing, drying and finally, sanding. We take pride in what we do so that you will have the right starting point for your instruments.

Old Growth Redwood is rare. We only utilize wood that is reclaimed, such as from old bridges and construction. We personally purchase it and therefore know the stories of most of the pieces we obtain. Integrity is very important to us and our goal is to give this beautiful wood a new life and story.

Sinker Old Growth Redwood is even more rare. There is only a finite amount in this universe and we joke that is is far more precious than gold, and we treat it as such. Sinker logs are redwood logs that got trapped underwater in rivers during log jams some hundred years ago and hence have developed unique mineral deposits that change the tone and texture of the wood. It smells a bit like gun powder when you saw it.

We love the idea of this precious wood being used to make something that will last for a long time and will be enjoyed by many. Tonewood is the perfect use in our mind. We appreciate you giving the amazing material it’s spotlight.
